Georges Azzaria - La fin des lumières

about

In response to Avatar’s invitation, I offer an anti-marker. The work is constructed around the philosophy of the Enlightenment and the idea that human reason could lead the world into progress.
With triumphant humour, it spars with 18th century thinkers and composers who, by appealing to reason, laid the foundation for future troubles. The work uses Emmanuel Kant’s essay “What Is Enlightenment?” and the music of Joseph Haydn. In these pandemic times, the audio processing breaks apart the text and music into a splutter. To mark the year of the publication of Kant’s essay, the work is composed of 1784 fragments, using only a cut/copy/paste technique.
