En surgissant, la catastrophe crée du possible et engendre du réel. Nos repères s’en retrouvent projetés, se changent en vecteurs, perdent la condition d’une référence discrète, se déploient comme un cheminement vers l’imprévu. Sachant ces choses, nous ne les croyons pourtant peu, distraits que nous sommes par notre lecture homogène des événements : l’éventualité semble improbable, alors qu’après elle relève de l’évidence.
Cette création s’insère dans un cycle de montages sonores se présentant sous l'aspect de documents d'archives retrouvés, détériorés et qui situent l'écoute au centre d'un temps en suspension.

As it arises, the disaster creates the possible and generates the real. Our markers are projected, transform into vectors, lose the condition of discrete references, unfold in a movement toward the unexpected. Knowing these things doesn’t mean that we believe them, however, distracted as we are by our homogeneous reading of events: the possibility seems unlikely, though it becomes obvious afterwards.
This work is part of a cycle of sound collages presented in the form of recovered, deteriorated archival documents that situate listening in a moment of suspension.


Bio :

Patrice Coulombe est un artiste œuvrant dans les domaines de la musique, de l'installation et de la performance. Ses actions portent principalement sur le détournement de technologies et l'exacerbation de leurs dysfonctions. Il collabore régulièrement à la production de créations médiatiques et technologiques avec divers artistes canadiens et étrangers. Il enseigne la création sonore et les médias interactifs à l'École des Médias de l'Université du Québec à Montréal, ainsi que pour plusieurs centre d'arts numériques.

Patrice Coulombe is an artist working in the fields of music, installation, and performance whose actions mainly focus on diverting technologies and exacerbating their malfunctions. He regularly collaborates with various Canadian and international artists on the production of media and technological creations. He teaches sound design and interactive media at the École des Médias of the Université du Québec à Montréal as well as at several digital art centres.
