Dialogue of Gestures is a reflection on time. By considering the rhythm of reacting to a simple daily gesture, its relative temporality becomes a signal. The work embodies a fragile but unmistakable recognition of a tribute to slowness revealed through an unsuspected finesse.


Bio :

Catherine Bélanger vit et travaille à Québec. Elle est titulaire d’un baccalauréat en arts visuels et d’une maîtrise interdisciplinaire en art de l’Université Laval. Ses recherches sur l’anthropologie quotidienne lui ont permis de développer une collaboration avec l’Université De Belfort-Montbéliard en France avec laquelle elle développe un vaste projet sur le patrimoine immatériel et la cartographie de gestes culinaires. Son travail se concrétise principalement en animation, en vidéo et en installation numérique et a été présenté entre autres à
La Centrale Powerhouse de Montréal en 2019, au Mois Multi, festival international d’art multidisciplinaire et électronique de Québec en 2017, au Musée de la Civilisation de Québec en 2016 ainsi qu’au BACC de Bangkok en 2015. De plus, elle participe à divers événements individuels et collectifs depuis 1997 dans différents lieux au Québec. Ses recherches ont été soutenues par le Conseil des arts du Canada et Première Ovation. Depuis 2004, elle enseigne aussi les arts visuels au Cégep Limoilou.

Catherine Bélanger lives and works in Quebec City. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies from Laval University. With her anthropological research of the everyday, she has developed a collaboration with the Université de Technologie de Belfort-Montbéliard in France to work on a major project on the intangible heritage and cartography of culinary gestures. Her work primarily takes the form of animation, video, and digital installation and has been presented at La Centrale Powerhouse in Montreal in 2019, the international festival of multidisciplinary and electronic art Mois Multi in Quebec City in 2017, the Musée de la Civilisation in Quebec City in 2016, as well as the Bangkok Art & Culture Centre in 2015. In addition, she has participated in many solo and group events in different locales throughout Quebec since 1997. Her research has been supported by the Canada Council for the Arts and Première Ovation. In 2004, she also began teaching visual arts at Cégep Limoilou.
